Marine Radar Training Software Released by Cambridge Pixel

Cambridge Pixel has introduced the SPx Radar Trainer, a software package designed to facilitate the teaching and learning of proper maritime radar usage.

The SPx Radar Trainer simplifies the familiarization process for students with radar controls, offering a contemporary simulation of a standard radar display accompanied by chart and 3D environment views. It enables instructors to create custom scenarios and operates within a browser window for user convenience.

The prevalence of radars on small boats and sailing yachts has increased, playing a crucial role in ensuring maritime safety by assisting in situations of restricted visibility and mitigating collision risks. However, existing instructional courses often rely on outdated, inaccurate, or expensive educational software, creating a demand for a more modern solution.

Developed by Cambridge Pixel, renowned for its radar software expertise, the SPx Radar Trainer addresses this need by providing a cutting-edge radar training solution. Students benefit from a realistic Plan Position Indicator (PPI) display and intuitive controls. The software enhances comprehension by allowing users to steer the vessel and observe the 3D environment from various angles, aiding in the interpretation of information displayed on the PPI.

Instructors can tailor training sessions with the flexibility to create custom scenarios, adjusting parameters such as the 'own ship' starting location, course, speed, and introducing other vessel traffic while configuring weather conditions. This enables instructors to deliver training in realistic and familiar settings.

David Johnson, the founder and managing director of Cambridge Pixel, expressed satisfaction with the launch, stating, "Cambridge Pixel is delighted to introduce a contemporary solution supporting training in the operation of marine radar systems. SPx Radar Trainer expands our array of radar processing solutions, contributing to the enhancement of safety and security worldwide."
